    The company is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer.


    Position Summary/ Primary Purpose

    The Vehicle Electrical Engineer reports to the Manager, Automated Vehicle Engineering and participates in the design of semi-complex Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) with a multidisciplinary development team including electrical, mechanical, and controls disciplines.  This position provides support in semi-complex vehicle and system specification, manufacturing, and appropriate follow-up. This position also participates in improvement recommendations related to productivity, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction.  Translates technical requirements into actual vehicle electrical and controls architecture and design.


    Major Areas of Responsibility

    • Review and interpret customers’ project specifications.
    • Provide structured and creative data analysis of customer’s operational and financial data to identify performance improvement opportunities.
    • Define scope of work and description of operation.
    • Calculate equipment performance requirements and capabilities.
    • Create vehicle Electrical Schematic concept drawings, flowcharts, and descriptions.
    • Create vehicle design specification.
    • Create test documents.
    • Create As-Built documentation.
    • Manage budget, schedule, and scope of design.
    • Participate in simulation/emulation as needed.
    • Design and implement vehicle HMI.
    • Ensure that the vehicle conforms to intended level of function, durability, and cost, with focus on deliverables.
    • Investigate and specify third party components required to meet functional specifications.
    • Prepare Request For Quote (RFQ) and specification documentation for equipment and machinery.
    • Provide Return On Investment (ROI) assessment for the project(s).
    • Evaluate technical risk of the project(s).
    • Perform compatibility and reliability testing.
    • Identify and raise any issues that may impact project quality, scope, timing, or cost.
    • Present material handling technical solution to customer and internal teams.
    • Recommend and implement product and process improvement.

    Broad Knowledge as Follows (Basic/Preferred)

    • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

    Skills & Abilities Preferred as Follows (Basic/Preferred)

    • Basic Analytical skills to extract critical data and translate to engineering concepts.
    • Full knowledge of NEC, NFPA specifications
    • Full knowledge of ANSI B56.5 Specification
    • Full Knowledge of UL 583 Specification
    • Ability to accommodate a variety of different and changing situations.
    • Positive attitude toward work requirements, fellow employees, and customers.
    • A wide degree of initiative, creativity, independence, and latitude is necessary and expected.
    • Exceptional presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
    • Ability to travel per the demands of the company - visits to customer locations.
    • Flexibility and availability within work schedule for changing job deadlines.
    • Work well under pressure and tight deadlines.


    Education & Experience

    • B.S. in Engineering (Electrical/Mechatronics) or a related field is preferred.
    • Experience with PLC programming
    • Experience in AutoCad or AutoCad Electrical
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • 3-5 years direct experience in software or firmware design, Automatic Guided Vehicle and/or industrial automation experience preferred.

    Demonstrated Physical Abilities as Follows:

    • Visits to customer locations may require negotiating through an industrial facility, including, but not limited to, conveyor systems requiring climbing access ladders, negotiation screen guards, catwalks, and lifting and/or carrying objects up to 40 lbs.
